Jinxed. . .But still lookin' up!

I jinxed myself. I’ve lost a pound and a half this week… That is not at all what I was anticipating. I am stuck at about 38-39 pounds. I’m not really sure what to do about it, but I guess I will just keep taking the doses and see what happens. I am going to go into Radiant in a week or so, and I will ask them, then. Even if I am losing a small amount, at least I am losing something. If it really gets to me, I may call in and find out what to do. Even despite this, Radiant has been phenomenal for me. 40 pounds! I’ve lost 40 pounds in less than two months! Where can you find a weight loss program that can even compare? You can’t—I’m convinced of that! For right now, I will keep on the diet they have told me to stick to and keep on exercising. That’s a big deal for me – exercising. I want to be really fit again.

As a matter of fact, I have been planning a backpacking trip here. I want to head out and backpack for a few days on the Pacific Crest trail, out in our backyard near Mt. Rainier. I am not sure how that will go over with the wife. Maybe I’ll make invite my son along and we’ll call it some good ‘ol father and son time. But that won’t happen until I drop a few more pounds. I always end up writing after my workouts at the Y, so it’s kind of an accountability thing, too.

Needle-Free Me! (and a new iPod case + strap)

I went in for my radiant visit today. Things are looking good. I lost another 4 pounds, so we’re at 37 pounds obliterated so far. I heard that some people reach a plateau and have a hard time losing, but I haven’t quite reached that yet. We’ll see what happens in the next few weeks or so, but so far the diet has treated me really well. I was looking at the injections again today online. I know some people prefer them, but I have a mild fear of needles, so I am so thankful that I got the oral drops. Some other weight loss centers are still using injections, and that would definitely push me away from them and lean more towards a center using the drops.

I also make my Radiant days my workout days, since I am already in town and don’t want to have to drive out again the next day. I bought a strap for my iPod, so when I am out there jogging I have something to listen to. I think it helps a little bit, because I went an extra lap today. That makes it a mile and a quarter so far. I am trying to keep my workouts to at least an hour. I end up jogging for 20-25 minutes, then lift weights for a little longer. So far the workout days are the days I feel the best, too; they are also the days that I feel the hungriest.

More Radiant, More YMCA

I scheduled in my next visit to Radiant and weighed myself this morning. I can’t believe that I have lost 33 pounds. The last four days I lost a pound a day. I have been trying really hard to stay on the diet that they prescribe. It’s 500 calories a day, but I don’t feel that hungry, usually. I am not losing hope of my target weight, but with this first round of HCG am not expecting to lose 100 pounds. It is just exciting to see that I am going to be thinner, look better, and feel better.

I, once again, went to the YMCA. I jogged four laps, so about a mile. It was exhausting, but I know that by adding the exertion into my weight loss schedule, I will lose even faster and see better results. I am feeling really motivated after a years of obesity, and this is giving me a change to get out. I also am starting to get back into weight lifting. I just lift a little, since I don’t know how much I should do on the low calorie diet, but so far it’s feeling pretty good. I can curl 35lbs right now without a problem, and my max is 45. We’ll see how it goes. A few more pounds and I would like to be swimming a bit, too. It’s suppose to be really good at giving a cardio workout, and we all know that’s a good thing for a guy like me who sits around on the computer for 7-9 hours a day!

New clothes and 30 pounds gone

July 16

I talked to the staff at Radiant again today. I needed to schedule another appointment for next week. I am almost a month and a half into my treatment, and things are looking pretty good so far. I am now at 29 ½ pounds gone so far. I have to add in the ½ pound because it’s so close to a pound a day. :) With any luck I will be going to be at about 45 pound gone in two months.

I still just can’t believe that I am losing so much weight so fast. I ended up going down and getting some new clothes today. I’ve lost too much weight to keep wearing what I got a couple weeks ago. It’s bittersweet, buying slacks and shirts for my job; yet, at the same time I see improvement—I feel better, and that’s worth far more than refusing to part with sizes of clothes!

The YMCA membership is really paying off, too. I have really enjoyed going and exercising. This last week I lifted some weight for the fun of it. Nothing much, just did some curls and tried benching a little bit. I haven’t done that since college, and it was great to do it again. So far I am visiting the YMCA twice a week. I do track and now lift weights. I want to eventually add swimming once I look a bit better, too. Keeping you posted,

Andrew

Weekend. . .

July 11

It’s Saturday, and I’ve earned a day off from exercise. I went to the YMCA again yesterday. I went a lap farther on the track than I had before at a pretty fast walk. I weighed myself again this morning and I’ve lost 25 pounds so far. So I lost a pound a day since my last visit. I think the exercise may be helping a little bit, but at 253, I’m not complaining at all. Last time I weighed around 250 was about a year ago. It’s just disappointing how much I let myself go with watching my weight simply because I sat behind a desk and snacked on Twinkies and potato chips 8 hours a day. One thing is for sure, that will never happen again. After visiting Radiant and learning about all the different important components to a diet, I think I’ve learned a lesson or two about weight. After putting the drops under my tongue this evening, I started to reflect on just how far I’ve come. From a high school athlete to a “blob,” I guess, sitting in front of a computer as a job. Anyway, just a thought. Onward and upward with Radiant!

Time to hit the track

July 7

Third visit to Radiant MedSpa went well! It’s been a little over a month, and I have lost 21 pounds. I’ll just say it. . .each time I go there I am very happy I chose them. I honestly don’t know how people can stand other weight loss centers that make you purchase expensive meal plans, etc. I know one of my colleagues has been going to Weight Watchers for over three years on and off. She’s lost a total of 35 pounds. I’m already at 21; that’s real success. I’m definitely an avid fan and advocate of this treatment. I only become more resolutely fixed in this mindset with each pound shed and each visit to Radiant MedSpa. Who says spas aren’t for guys?

I finally broke down and bought a membership to YMCA this week, too. My wife and I plan to go a couple times a week. I ended up doing a bit of fast walking, but I was sore yesterday after the workout. We’ll see how it goes from there, but I am planning on doing the same workout in a week. I heard that drinking plenty of water helps muscles rejuvenate after a workout, so I am drinking a lot more water than I normally would, too. It can only get better from here, so I am excited!

3 pounds, tongue drops, and pedometers. Oh my!

July 2

4 more days, 3 more pounds gone. 16 pounds in about 26 days. I am much happier with that number. I calculated that I would lose about 22 pounds in a month, so I think I can do it. I have four more days left, and I would like to be nice to get past 20 pounds. From now on I think I am going to stick with a healthier diet and close to the allowed list and possibly start exercising a bit more, too. I want to be in shape by the time September rolls around, so I need to work out a little bit more than just my morning walks.

One of the nicest things about this treatment so far is that I can take the drops twice a day, and then have room to plan my own exercise routine and still eat without heavy restrictions (must of which I place on myself). I also learned that Radiant does phone consultations, so patients can actually be on their program without ever having to go into their facility. That’s probably a plus for anyone outside the Seattle area.

I also ended up getting a pedometer. It keeps track of how long you have walked by the number of steps you take. It’s handy, although not completely accurate all the time. I found out that walking around my neighborhood gets me about half a mile. I want to work up to running a few miles each week. We’ll see how that goes. Until next time, keep shedding those pounds. . .
